Editorial Policy

This policy explains how I research, write, check, and update everything on Cat Meal Calculator. It also tells you what to do when you spot an error.

What every page is for

Each page exists to help you use the calculator or understand its results. I do not publish filler to chase search traffic. When a page stops helping readers, I fix it or remove it.

Who writes and maintains the content

I write and maintain every page myself. I am not a veterinarian, so I do not diagnose, treat, or prescribe. My job is to turn published veterinary guidance into clear steps and correct math. Anything about your own cat’s health belongs with your vet.

The sources I trust

Nutrition facts must trace back to a source I can name. I rank sources in this order.

  1. Clinical guidelines from WSAVA and AAHA.
  2. The National Research Council report on nutrient requirements of dogs and cats.
  3. Standards bodies such as AAFCO, for label and nutrient rules.
  4. Product labels, only for the calorie figures of a specific food.

I do not cite forums, anonymous blogs, or sales pages for health claims. I also never invent statistics, reviews, or credentials.

How I check the numbers

Checks before a figure goes live
What I checkHow I check it
Tables and examplesI compute each value with the same formulas the calculator uses, then round to the nearest calorie.
Formula changesI rerun every table and example on the site before I publish.
Safety limitsI keep the vet-referral rules in the tool in line with the guidelines above.
Facts versus opinionI state facts with numbers and sources. I label my own advice as advice.

How I keep pages current

Each page shows the date of its last update. The calculator page shows when I last checked the formulas. I recheck them at least twice a year, and sooner when WSAVA, AAHA, or NRC publish new guidance.

Corrections

Mistakes happen. If you spot one, send the page link and what looks wrong through the contact form. A source helps, but it is not required. I check every report, fix confirmed errors, and update the page date.

Medical boundaries

The site gives general estimates for healthy cats. It does not replace an exam. Where a condition changes how a cat should eat, I say so and point you to a vet. The medical notice has the full wording.

Ads, sponsors, and affiliate links

Money never shapes the results. I will label any sponsored content, ad, or affiliate link. No brand can pay to change a calculation, a recommendation, or a source on this site.
