About Cat Meal Calculator

Cat Meal Calculator is a free tool that tells you how much to feed your cat. I built it because pet food labels make a simple question feel hard.

Why this calculator exists

Food labels list calories per cup, per can, or per kilogram. Bag feeding charts add wide ranges that often run high. Meanwhile, surveys by the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention put the share of overweight pet cats near six in ten. Owners need one clear answer to a plain question. How much should my cat eat today?

So I built one tool and focused on getting it right. I would rather give you a calculator you can trust than a pile of pages that repeat each other. The home page explains the science in plain words, and the calculator does the math.

Who runs this site

I run Cat Meal Calculator as an independent project. I am not a veterinarian or a pet nutritionist, and I will not pretend to be one. Instead, I build on published veterinary guidelines and tell you which ones I use. When a cat has a health problem, your vet’s advice comes first.

Where the numbers come from

Three sources shape every formula and range on the site.

Sources behind the calculator
SourceWhat I use it for
WSAVA Global Nutrition GuidelinesNutrition assessment and body condition scoring
AAHA Nutrition and Weight Management Guidelines, 2021Calorie goals and safe weight loss rates
National Research Council, Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats, 2006Resting and maintenance energy formulas

I do not use forums, anonymous blogs, or brand marketing pages as sources for nutrition facts. The editorial policy shows how I check figures, date each page, and handle corrections.

Who this tool is for

The calculator suits healthy kittens, adults, and seniors. It does not suit cats with kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid problems, or a body condition score of 7 or higher. Pregnant and nursing cats also need a vet’s plan. If you have doubts, call your vet before you change a diet. You can read the full medical notice too.

Privacy and independence

The calculator runs in your browser, so I never see what you enter. The site does use standard analytics to count visits. You can read the details in the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

Results never favor a brand or product. If ads, sponsors, or affiliate links ever appear, I will label them clearly. They will not change what the calculator says.
